#191 - 19th October 2024 - Codename: Opal
The formula?
Oceansize meets Apparat meets Jon Hopkins meets The Prodigy.
Whatever the fuck that means.
I want the intricate yet danceable Oceansize drum metrics merging with ambient soundscapes that create an irresistible swirl into a state of trance erupting and climaxing in an otherworldly rave. Exhale! Exhale!
Big words. Reads great on paper. I might regret saying this.
But it sure sounds intriguing.
A big aspect in this one: I want to go back again to crafting my own sounds. (Re-)sampling was a core concept in Cursed Bunny.
As a workflow, sample mangling is fast, fun and yielded great results for me. But I also found myself fighting with samples when designing my own sounds could have been the more fruitful option.
Over the past weeks, I realized that designing sounds and recording / printing directly to audio is a workflow that feels more natural. As a nice side effect, the music mixes itself.
So I decided to record as much as possible from hardware or at least run in-the-box sounds through external gear. Simply for the act of committing.
Now drums are special. I‘m still not a drummer. I will have to start with sample drums, Addictive Drums, and own programming… or no drums at all to get a demo down. The final result however should have some degree of live recorded drums in it. In this project, I want acoustic drums kissing electronic drums.
Monday is kickoff.
