He‘s there when you need him but never in an obtrusive way.
I wouldn‘t take the Polybrute if I was looking for a recognizable character that takes center stage. That‘s not what it‘s good at.
But for that lush pad that covers everything with a touch of cotton, a solid base line or a little ear candy tinkling far in the panorama? Very much spot on!
It can even sound vintagy, thanks to its vast modulation capabilities. The matrix speaks for itself.
That‘s why it does not necessarily speak to me when I sit in front of it. Not like the Sub37 that is a riff machine.
But instead, whenever a track needs a little something, anything to finish it, the Polybrute can do the job as you can make it fit in so well. In that regard it mixes itself. Needless to say Arturia is king in software so the vst works brilliantly and makes it integrate in a project so well!
So I played the PB tonight, but nothing stuck. Not in the way that Osmose would make me want to record immediately after switching it on. But that’s ok.
