#167 - 25th September 2024 - A bit off track…
… but very much related to the puzzle I‘m trying to put together right now - a video the algorithm suggested sparked my curiosity.
I was not aware that after market lenses for phones were even a product group.
While it seems kinda obvious that a mediocre camera could be upgraded with another lens, I‘m also skeptical: The light still passes the actual phone lens and the limiting factor is more often the sensor, not necessarily the lens. And shouldn’t you go for a „proper cam“ straight away/not polish the turd?💩
However, if you’re not in the market for sharp top notch shots, but simply looking for more character in a portable format, my little research suggests that such a lens, an additional filter and the right settings on thr camera app can bring very interesting results with a level of character induced that post processing in software will deliver… differently.
The video showcases a telephoto lens. After some research I think I‘ll rather try an anamorphic and maybe a wide lens, certainly supported by different filters.
I‘m not knowledgeable around photography and equipment at all. But I know very well which kind of aesthetics I like. This grainy, partially distorted look is like a window to a past dimension. It sparks nostalgia.
I hope this will not become a rabbit hole…
