#151 - 9th September 2024 - Seeking foundational stuff for live jams
The journey continues.
To fill the live set and allow for some musicianship (if that‘s a term), I sit down every now and then to pin down a rough idea that could be just enough to construct a jam around it.
Obviously, the main difficulty is to make it work with just two people playing.
Also, I don‘t want to employ the electric guitar, but rather stick to my arsenal of the Prophet, Digitakt and Heat.
Added to that comes a live acoustic kit, perhaps with some samples, but for simplicity‘s sake probably not. This means, I also only need a rough drum idea, but nothing too specific, as I expect the drummer to add to what I’ve prepared and will play live.
And this in turn will affect what I‘ll be playing.
Yes, a jam. 😵💫
So I made this.
And one revelation that I had (again) is that it is such a good idea to craft your sounds thoroughly. This is super obvious but when I‘m in the sample manipulation workflow, I don‘t always adhere to this simple logic: Design fitting sounds, instead of relying on presets and tweaking.
For a moment, it sounds like it would take more time. But again and again, I just realize how much time I save not mixing things that were already set up well in the arrangement.
Needless to say, in this example, running the synths through the Overstayer, Meraki Delay and CxM 1978 Reverb added tremendously to a „ready“ sound.
Note to self: Just make more sounds from scratch you spazz!
