#129 - 18th August 2024 - Electronic music
I did my bit on Fabio‘s track today.
He already worked on it for several months, with several people. According to him and in contrast to his typical workflow, that‘s too long and he wants it out there, released.
So I offered my support in pushing the song over the finish line.
What did I do? Mostly, creating depths and atmosphere.
How? With layers, panning and EQing and lots of automation.
From my POV, particularly the drums needed more oomph and realness to add to the groove. So I added an acoustic kit to support the core groove and did my usual group bounce compression on top of it.
What‘s first for me, but worked well with the electronic kick: My acoustic kick is from a Cajon. I hate Cajons.
Everything that‘s mid frequency - that‘s mostly the handpan and several piano layers - received some EQ carving.
I‘m not a fan of the string sound that was in there. It’s too artificial, like most affordable vsts are. So I added two layers of PolyBrute pads left and right, both with CxM1978 reverb and some detune to give the impression that the strings were never supposed to sound realistic.
And finally low end de-cluttering and my go-to mastering chain these days:
- kclip
- black box hg-2
- (capitol mastering comp)
- weiss limiter
- ozone 11
